Looking and feeling younger and healthier can be as simple as making some adjustments to your diet and lifestyle.
First of all, we’re not about to sell you a miracle diet or a magic pill. In fact, we strongly discourage you from ever “going on a diet.” When you go on a diet, you are saying, “I’m going to eat this way for X amount of time until I look the way I want to look, and then I’m going to do whatever I want.” That kind of mentality may get you where you want to be, but it won’t keep you there.
So, what do you really want? Do you want to have more energy, lower blood pressure, and to look and feel younger? The answer is pretty simple, actually, but you do have to change your lifestyle and commit to that change. You’re not just going to eat a balanced diet and get enough exercise until you start to feel fit. You’re going to continue these new good diet and exercise habits for the rest of your life, and you’ll notice major benefits for as long as you live.
For younger looking skin, more energy, and better cardiovascular health, you really need to increase your hydration, focus on eating lots of vitamins, antioxidants, whole grains, and moderate lean protein, and get regular exercise. Let’s break it down into its three simple parts and go into a little bit more detail on each.
Stay Hydrated
First and foremost, you need to stay hydrated. Nutritionists and physicians, alike, are now recommending that you drink at least 2L of water a day – this is a guide only and will depend on the individual. They recommend even more if you’re highly active and/or if you live in a hot or dry climate.
Making sure that you get enough water every day will keep your skin hydrated, which will keep it dewy, plump, and firm. It will also keep you feeling energised, so you’ll be more likely to go get some exercise when you get out of work for the day and less likely to get home and crash on the couch.
When you’re well hydrated, you’ll also be less likely to mistake thirst for hunger. Many people may feel as though they are hungry when they are actually dehydrated and in need of water. If you are drinking enough water, you may find that you eat fewer snacks throughout the day.
Eat the Right Foods
The tried and true method of shopping around the perimeter of the grocery store holds true. Eat lean meats, dairy, fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. These foods will keep you feeling full longer, and they’re full of vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, and fatty acids, all of which are great for your skin.
They’ll also keep you feeling full longer than a lot of processed foods that are heavy in simple sugars and sodium.
Get Moving!
Finally, doctors recommend that you get at least 20-30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise 5 times a week. You don’t have to get your exercise at the gym, though. You can go on a bike ride, play catch with your kids, go for a walk, take a yoga class, or do anything else that gets your body moving and your heart rate up.
Blood flow to the skin and pores opening up will have you looking and feeling younger in no time. Stick with these three components, and you’ll look younger than your years for years to come.
