It’s Pampering Time!
Today I’m going to give you hot tips about how to give yourself an amazing facial in the comfort of your own home.
Picture this: A horrible day at the office, you’re feeling stressed, you come home and want a bit of pampering, you don’t fancy going to the spa or beauty salon but you don’t know how to give yourself a nice facial… Never fear! I’m here to help!
So in order to fully enjoy your facial, gather what you need in advance. Trust me you do not want to run to the bedroom mid-facial to get your toner, it kind of ruins the moment! Light some candles, put on some soothing music, have your cucumber pre-sliced, ensure your hair is fully out of your face so apply a hair band or put it up in a hair tie, whatever suits and a comfortable place cleared for you to lie down while your mask sets.
This involves cleansing your skin, now if you’re like me you have this down to a fine art of 1 minute however remember this is for relaxation purposes so take your time. Gently remove your eye makeup using your usual eye makeup remover. Then it’s time to cleanse your face, this can be done using your basic daily cleanser or if you feel like spoiling yourself buy a special one for your weekly facials. Using the cleanser and tepid water, make a nice lather in your hands. Use circular, upward motions to ensure a nice gentle cleanse. Rinse your face clean using tepid water. Then repeat the cleansing step again, reason being the first time you are washing Sydney off your face and the second time you are ensuring a deep cleanse to unclog your pores.
Using your choice of exfoliator, place a pea sized amount onto your palm and apply same to damp skin in the same circular upward motions as before avoiding the eye area. Don’t forget to apply to your neck. When you have finished applying your exfoliator rinse it away with tepid water.
This is a very important part of the facial and my favourite part. To open your pores apply a hot damp towel to your face. Remember to leave a little space at your nose so you don’t find it hard to breath otherwise the relaxing property of the facial will be no moreJ . I also like to spray my lavender spritz on the hot damp towel at the preparation stage so that I fully relax. Lie down for a couple of minutes and relax while your pores open.
Apply your favourite face mask to suit your skin type. A personal favourite of mine is Dermalogica’s skin hydrating mask, my skin feels so soft and smooth after it. You can apply the mask with your fingers or using a brush, which ever you prefer. Be liberal with the amount of mask you use, avoid the eye area. Most masks need to be left for 10 mins however ensure you check with the product that you are using. Now it’s time to lie down and relax for the designated time. If you wish you can place cucumber on your eyes, this has many benifits:
- Cucumbers are 90% water, this water hydrates the skin around your eyes flushing out the impurities that cause puffiness and dark circles
- The caffeic acid reduces swelling and helps soothe the skin
- The Vitamin C contains antioxidants and is helpful in the prevention of wrinkles
Wipe off the face mask using a wet, warm towel, ensure you pay close attention to the side of the nose and the hairline. Rinse your face with warm water.
Apply your usual toner to a cotton pad (the pad should be wet but not dripping). Use gentle upward sweeping motions and commence with the problem areas of your skin. Ensure you don’t rub the toner onto your skin, be gentle. If the cotton pad becomes too dirty use a fresh one. Ensure you allow the toner to dry prior to applying your moisturiser.
Apply your moisturiser; you can give yourself a facial massage while doing so to enhance the relaxing experience.
So there you have it, my facial 101. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Don’t forget facials have a number of benefits not only does it relax and de-stresses you, but it provides a deep clean of the skin and pores and it improves your skins overall appearance; for example, it can improve skin that is too dry or too oily and it can rejuvenate old or wrinkled looking skin. In short, facials are an important part of keeping your skin in good health so find time for them in your life.
