Here are some great Christmas recipe ideas that are fun to make with the kids. The involvement and interesting concepts will help entice them to try new foods! They are also much healthier substitutes for lollies, chips, cheese cake and so on.
Watermelon Christmas trees
This is such a simple idea! Simply cut watermelon in to Christmas tree shapes. The kids will probably have to observe this one so that they don’t harm themselves using sharp knives. They look very festive and will be refreshing for a hot Christmas.
Banana penguins
Straight from the North Pole! These guys are simple for kids to make. Simply dip half a banana in to some melted chocolate and use M&Ms as the nose and feet. This can be used as a dessert and will greatly minimise the sugar and fat that many other desserts require.
Strawberry Santa
This can be another dessert option. Simply cut up strawberries and use a light whipped cream to make beards and the pom pom on the Santa hat. Store in the fridge until serving so that they stay in shape.
Fruit salad Christmas tree
There is a fruit salad present at most Christmas parties so why not do something different this year and make it in to a tree? As in the image below, you can place your strawberry santas around the tree!
Water
Replace juice and soft drink with water! Freeze some ice cubes with berries or edible flowers in them and add to a glass of cold water with fresh lemon juice. This is not only refreshing but looks great! For adults that plan to have a couple of alcoholic drinks, aim to have a glass of water between beverages.
Make decorations using orange
The below decorations can be made by drying oranges. They look great and are another fun craft activity for children – teach them about the health benefits of orange whilst making them!
