Do Men Need Different Skincare Products Than Women?
Today more and more men are taking pride in their appearance, they are swapping their paint brush for an exfoliating brush! Men’s skin tends to have a thicker epidural layer, larger pores, appear oilier and they lose collagen at a slower rate than women.
A lot of skincare brands have a range specifically targeting men but is there need for it? In my opinion the answer is NO! Although men have different facial needs for example facial hair etc. men and women’s skin do share similar traits and at the end of the day it is the ingredients in the product and a person’s skin type that determines the usage and not the marketing.
The main reason some males stay away from certain brands is not the result they get on their skin, it is simply the smell. When it comes to product use, men may have to use it differently to women but overall there is no issue with your boyfriend using your best moisturizer only that they tend to be heavy handed and you may run out of it quicker.
The main differences between men and women’s cosmetics are the following:
- The packaging – Generally the packaging for men’s cosmetics tend to be very masculine using darker colors with bold text.
- The smell – Obviously if a product smells like flowers a man will not use it they prefer lighter scents like citrus or spices.
- Simplicity – Men generally do not like to be overloaded with product they just want the basics and a simple skincare routine.
