Actually, there is more to the story then just looking good. Moisturiser is also a good way of reducing any malfunctions in the skin due to things like sun exposure or even sun damage.
Considering the Use of Moisturiser
So, there are two key benefits of using moisturiser:
- It encourages healthy skin function – The skin is one of the body’s primary organs. You have to eat right, drink water, and take care of the skin by cleaning and moisturising it to be sure that this organ works as effectively as possible. Remember too that your skin is the protective shell around the body and when you care for the skin it is going to be able to deliver many more years of effective service; and
- A skin care regimen can help you to keep cancer at bay – While moisturising the skin is not a proven remedy against skin cancer, just consider that it will help to repair the skin immediately after any damage or exposure occurs. Many good moisturising products even contain sunscreen to help block the damaging ultraviolet rays. Additionally, when you are looking at the skin and applying moisturiser to the body it is a good way to keep a watchful eye for the first signs of suspicious areas.
The Right Way to Use Skin Moisturisers
Now, with all of that being said, it is important to remember that not all moisturisers are alike. Some are just glorified water and oil that will temporarily moisten the skin but deliver little else. This means you want to be sure that the moisturiser you use is of the utmost quality. You don’t have to head to the costly cosmetics counter of the nearest upscale department store or mall, however, because your pharmacy shelves are quite likely to have all that you need.
Just consider the condition and needs of your skin to get off to a good start. Do you have a tendency towards dry skin? Maybe you have oily skin? Will you be happy using a combination product for face and body or would you want separate products for each (after all, you may need a special formula for the face)?
Take some time to research and identify the right products for your skin. We would say that a single formula for your face and neck and single formula for the rest of the body is a good solution. We would also suggest that a moisturising product for the hands is good for daily use, and that special attention go to the lips as well.
Your skin is different all over your body and that means that you will want to give each area the most protection possible. Generally, a lip treatment with a good SPF rating is very beneficial. A moisturising cream for the face and neck should have sun block too, and be sure that you always apply it to the upper area of the chest as this is skin that is incredibly vulnerable to sun damage.
Also remember that an ideal time to apply a body treatment is just after the shower or bath. At this time the pores are open and the skin is moist. So, just pat yourself dry and begin slathering on the product right away. Rub it in well and then treat the face and neck. This will trap that wonderful moisture in the skin and keep you feeling good, looking your best, and prevent damage from the sun! All great reasons to moisturise!
