6 Free Tricks for Healthy Skin – They Don’t Call It Beauty Rest for Nothing!
You may have seen a number of advertisements on TV and online however you would think that you need a second job and a third mortgage to pay for it. At the end of the day we all want beautiful, clear, youthful skin.
Fortunately, that is not the case at all. You don’t have to spend a fortune on skin care and beauty supplies, appointments, and injections to look and feel young and beautiful. Sure, you should treat yourself to a facial and a day at the spa when you can, but you don’t have to go broke on keeping up with your skin care. Check out these easy (and free!) skin care tips.
Get your beauty rest
When you wake up from a full night of restful sleep, you not only feel better, but you look better, too. You don’t get those telltale bags and dark circles under your eyes, and your skin looks fresher and firmer.
Studies have shown that getting 7-8 hours of sleep per night consistently decreases your chances of developing wrinkles and fine lines. Poor sleepers have also been shown to have a link to dehydrated skin. Whether this is a case of causation or correlation is yet to be determined, but we do know this: more sleep means prettier skin and fewer wrinkles.
Pat your skin and hair dry
If you suffer from dry skin, pat your body dry after you shower. This will avoid wiping away your skin’s oils and help maintain the barrier between your skin and the atmosphere that keeps water from evaporating away. You can also minimise frizz in your hair by patting it dry instead of rubbing it back and forth.
This practice is great for taming tresses and keeping skin from getting ashy and scaly all year round, but it is especially important during the winter when the air is dry, cold and sucks the moisture right out of your skin.
Eat your bananas and oranges
Bananas are packed with magnesium and potassium, which are great for your digestive system and will brighten your skin tone. Oranges have a ton of vitamin C, which helps with collagen production for skin cell repair and regeneration. If you want to get rid of dull, saggy skin and replace it with plump, dewy, bright skin, eat plenty of these fruits.
Cool it in the shower
Instead of taking a long, hot shower, turn the temperature down a little bit, and limit yourself to about 10-15 minutes. While you want to keep your skin hydrated, running water over it for too long can wash away your skin’s oils and leave you dry and unprotected.
Humidify your bedroom
However, while you don’t want to stand under a direct stream of water for 20 minutes a day, you do want to make sure that your environment is humid enough that the air around you is not making your skin dry. Running a humidifier in your bedroom at night can help keep your skin young and fresh.
You can even make a DIY humidifier by placing a fan in front of a bowl of water. The fan will circulate the evaporating water around the room, just like a store-bought humidifier would.
Get a breath of fresh air
Try to avoid smoky bars, clubs, and anywhere with poor air quality. Clean, fresh air is great for your skin and your health, and pollutants that can damage your lungs may damage your skin.
