It seems like every day there is a new “miracle” product that is “guaranteed” to make you look 10 years younger. If even one of these products actually did everything its makers claimed, they would be as wealthy as Bill Gates, and people all over the world would be looking radically younger.
Miracle products may not be all they claim, but you can do a few easy and healthy things on a daily basis to keep your skin young and wrinkle free well into your 40s, 50s, and even 60s if you are vigilant and have a little bit of luck, genetically speaking. Follow these four tips, and you can slow down time more than you might have thought possible.
Drink Your Water and Learn to Relax
Firstly, make sure that you are drinking at least 2 litres of water per day. Staying hydrated helps keep your skin moisturised. If you are well hydrated, your moisturisers and serums will not have to do as much work to keep your skin looking fresh.
While you are drinking plenty of water, remember to breathe. We put this tip first because it is the most basic, but it is also the most important. Drink water and take a deep breath (not at the same time) to relax. Stress makes you furrow your brow and frown, causing all kinds of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also associated with acne breakouts, which can leave lasting scars.
Get Out of the Sun and Pamper Your Skin
Protect your skin from sun exposure. Vitamin D is great for your skin, but UV rays can wrinkle you like a prune. If you are serious about staying young, slather on high-SPF sun block whenever you have to go out in the sun. Go a step further, and wear a wide-brimmed hat to shade your face.
After you have been in the sun (hopefully with plenty of sun block), wash your face with a mild cleanser and apply a soothing moisturiser. This will clean out your pores and keep them from being clogged and breaking out. It will also help your skin retain moisture and repair any damaged skin cells.
Get Your Sweat On and Then Cleanse Your Skin
Regular cardiovascular exercise and strength training are both great for keeping a trim body, but they are also great for making you sweat. You also get more blood flow and oxygen to your skin, which helps in the repair and regeneration of skin cells. There is a reason that athletes’ skin often looks so healthy, and this is it.
Be warned, though, you cannot just go workout and then go about your day. Stale sweat sitting on your skin will leave your pores more clogged than they were to begin with. Shower and use a gentle cleanser on your skin right after your workout, and you will be getting the best effects for youthful skin.
Sleep Well and Often
We cannot stress this one enough. When you don’t get enough sleep, or you sleep poorly, it shows on your face. Your skin will look dull and saggy. You will get dark circles and bags under your eyes. Keep a regular sleep schedule. Make sure that the room is dark and quiet. Get up at about the same time every day. These things, along with good diet and exercise habits, will have you sleeping like a baby and looking rested and youthful.
Follow these easy tips, and you will not only look younger and healthier, but you will feel it, too.
