About Skin Bumps
Stepping out into the winter cold you feel the goosebumps rise on your skin. These are not the kinds of skin bumps you need to worry about. There are, however, other kinds that require your attention.
Common types of problematic skin bumps may include:
This is quite common, but upsetting to those who have it. It is caused when the skin forms hard plugs around the base of the follicles. Though a patient wants to pick or scrub away the hard bumps, the best method for removing them is to moisturize the skin with specially prescribed lotions.
These are pockets of tissue that can literally form anywhere on the skin, but which are harmless. An ingrown hair, an old pimple, an infection, and anything that clogs a gland can lead to a cyst. These can be left alone, but can also be easily removed.
These are harmless but unsightly raised bumps. They can range from red and brown to purple. They can be itchy and may change color. They need no treatment.
Hair follicles can become inflamed and create very noticeable red bumps on the skin. They may even become infected or irritated by chemicals such as soaps. They are treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications, and should not be rubbed or shaved.
Subcutaneous tissue containing a harmless tumour, but which can be painful if growing out of control and pressing on nerves. They can be removed through suction, squeezing, or surgery.
These are the most commonly diagnosed skin bumps, and you can see that they all need the attention of a medical expert to be dealt with safely. Never try to handle skin bumps without the guidance of a trained skin doctor.
If you have questions about skin bumps contact your local doctor, who will arrange for you to see a dermatologist.
